HISTORY AND MEMBERSHIP
HISTORYBattle and District Arts Group was founded in 1960 by Mr and Mrs Alexander who took it forward from a local literary and arts festival, forming a group with likeminded artists to exhibit their work collectively at the annual summer exhibition.
Today the group exists with a membership of some 200 artists and art lovers. We meet once a month (every 3rd Saturday at 2.30pm) at the Battle Memorial Halls on Battle High Street for a varied programme of talks and demonstrations by invited professional artists and speakers. On a practical level we encourage our members with instructional DVD's, weekly outdoor painting sessions and informal painting groups and workshops. Our annual exhibition is still the main focus of the group, providing the opportunity to showcase the diverse style and artistic talent of our members, it is held every summer (July/August) for ten days at the Memorial Halls and remains very popular with locals and visitors alike. |
